ในโลกของงานศิลปะบนกำแพง ยังมีอีกหลายอย่างที่น่าสนใจและควรศึกษา ไม่ว่าจากยุคเริ่มแรก ยุคกลาง หรืออย่างในยุคปัจจุบัน งานสไตล์นี้ล้วนเกิดขึ้นและพัฒนาอยู่ตลอด ไม่พ้นแม้กระทั่งงานเพ้นท์ติ้งที่ในทุกวันนี้ได้กลายมาเป็นอีกหนึ่งเทคนิคที่ได้รับความนิยมมากขึ้น จากเริ่มแรกในยุคของ ‘Diego Rivera’ จิตรกรงาน Mural สมัยใหม่ในยุคอดีต ที่ได้กลายเป็นอีกหนึ่งบุคคลที่สร้างแรงบันดาลใจจนมีผู้สืบทอดและเจริญรอยตามเกิดขึ้นมาอย่างมากมาย เฉกเช่นเดียวกับศิลปิน Mural คนนี้ที่เรียกได้ว่าเป็นอันดับต้นๆ ที่เราอยากแนะนำกับบทสัมภาษณ์สุดพิเศษที่เรารอมานานจาก ‘Bezt’ หนึ่งในดูโอกลุ่มศิลปินในนาม ‘Etam’ ที่มีผู้ติดตามผลงานมากที่สุดคู่หนึ่งในโลกศิลปะบนกำแพงยุคนี้ ที่เขาจะมาบอกเล่าวิธีการทำงาน, มุมมองต่างๆ รวมไปถึงความหมายในผลงานของเขาให้พวกเราได้ฟังกัน
อยากให้คุณช่วยเล่าจุดเริ่มต้นกับการมาสนใจในการทำงานศิลปะ ?
ผมเริ่มทำงานกราฟฟิตี้ในช่วงระหว่างปี 1999 – 2000 ในเมืองเล็กๆ ของประเทศโปแลนด์อย่าง ‘Turek’ ที่นั่นก็เป็นจุดเริ่มในการทำงานของผม หลังจากนั้นผมก็เริ่มพัฒนาผลงานของตัวเอง แล้วก็เริ่มทำกลุ่มกับเพื่อนในสมัยเด็กๆ ในชื่อว่า ‘Etam’ แต่ตอนนั้นยังไม่มี Seiner เข้ามา จนในปี 2008 ผมไปเรียนต่อในด้านศิลปะแล้วไปเจอกับ ‘Seiner’ เลยชวนเขาเข้ามาร่วมกลุ่มกัน หลังจากนั้นพวกเราก็ได้เริ่มสร้างผลงานบนกำแพงใหญ่ๆ ในเมือง ‘Lodz’ เป็นที่แรกๆ
อะไรเป็นแรงบันดาลใจให้คุณมาสนใจในคาแรคเตอร์ของมนุษย์ ?
ผมสนใจเรื่องอีโมชั่นในคาแรคเตอร์ของคน เพราะอีโมชั่นมันให้ฟิลลิ่งที่สามารถเป็นสื่อกลางเชื่อมโยงกับคนได้มากกว่า ซึ่งตรงนี้คือสิ่งที่ผมชอบและเป็นปัจจัยหลักในการสร้างงานของผม
อยากให้คุณช่วยยกตัวอย่างวิธีคิดและการออกแบบในการทำงานคาแรคเตอร์ของคุณ ?
มันก็ค่อนข้างอธิบายยากเหมือนกัน เพราะผมก็อยากฟังความคิดเห็นของคนอื่นมากกว่า อยากให้เขาได้อธิบายงานของผมเมื่อพวกเขาได้เห็นว่าเขารู้สึกอย่างไร ซึ่งมันจะดีกว่าผมมาอธิบายให้คนอื่นคิดเหมือนผม ก็อย่างที่ผมเคยบอก ผมโฟกัสที่อีโมชั่นในงานของผม ส่วนความรู้สึกและความหมายที่มันสื่อออกมาจากงาน ผมปล่อยให้ผู้คนได้คิดตามมุมมองในแบบของเขา
คุณคิดว่าเสน่ห์ของมนุษย์ ที่ทำให้คุณชอบคืออะไร ?
ผมว่ามันเป็นความแตกต่างในเรื่องอีโมชั่นของมนุษย์
งานของคุณเป็นการผสมผสานคาแรคเตอร์และรูปแบบของงานสไตล์เซอร์เรียลลิสต์เข้าด้วยกันใช่มั้ย ?
ก็ใช่นะ แต่มันก็จะแตกต่างกันในเรื่องของคอนเซปต์กับสิ่งที่ผมอยากนำเสนอ
เทคนิคในการทำงานของคุณ ผมเห็นว่าคุณชำนาญทั้งเพ้นท์ติ้งและสีสเปรย์ ?
เดี๋ยวนี้ผมไม่ค่อยได้ใช้สีสเปรย์เท่าไหร่ ผมมาใช้สีอะคริลิคที่ใช้กับงานเพ้นท์ติ้งมากกว่า เพราะว่ามันง่ายที่จะควบคุมและไม่เหม็นด้วย รวมไปถึงหาซื้อได้ค่อนข้างง่ายกว่า แต่ถ้าสีสเปรย์มันจะยากตรงตอนที่สีบางสีหมด แล้วมันไม่สามารถผสมกันได้ แต่สีอะคริลิคมันสามารถผสมและแก้ไขได้เลย อย่างในงาน ผมจะชอบเลือกใช้พวกสีฟ้า, สีแดง, สีเหลือง, สีดำ แล้วก็สีขาว ส่วนที่เหลือผมก็จะมาครีเอทมันที่หน้างานอีกที แต่ถ้ามีเวลามากพอในการเตรียมตัว ผมก็จะลิสต์สีขึ้นมาเอาไว้ ซึ่งก็ถือว่าเป็นวิธีที่สะดวกและง่ายด้วยเหมือนกัน
สกิลในการทำงานของคุณ เช่น การขึ้นโครงสร้างและการใช้สี ถือว่าน่าสนใจมากๆ คุณมีวิธีในการทำงานอย่างไร ?
ขั้นตอนแรกผมก็เริ่มสเก็ตซ์งานก่อน ต่อมาผมก็จะถ่ายรูปแฟนผมหรือไม่ก็ตัวผมมาเป็นแบบ เพื่อที่จะสเก็ตซ์ออกมา หลังจากนั้นผมก็จะเอาไปลงโปรแกรมโฟโต้ช็อป เพื่อที่จะเช็คสีและสเก็ตซ์บนกำแพงที่ผมจะไปทำ หลังจากนั้นผมก็เริ่มลงมือทำ ร่างแบบขึ้นมาว่าเป็นยังไง ตรงกับที่วางเอาไว้มั้ย ซึ่งบางทีมันก็ค่อนข้างใช้เวลานานเหมือนกัน อาจจะมีผิดพลาดในเรื่องของสเกล เพราะผมค่อนข้างใส่ใจกับการร่างแบบมาก บางครั้งผมขึ้นแบบถึงสองวันเลย หลังจากนั้นผมก็เริ่มใช้สีหลักๆ ลงไปก่อน ซึ่งบางครั้งก็ใช้เวลาประมาณเกือบสี่วันเลยเหมือนกัน พอผมได้วางสีหลักๆ เสร็จ ผมก็เริ่มไล่เฉดสีต่างๆ แล้วก็เก็บรายละเอียดทั้งหมด รวมไปถึงแก้ไขสิ่งต่างๆ ให้ลงตัวที่สุด โดยรวมๆ ผมใช้เวลาในการทำงานทั้งหมด 14 วัน แต่บางครั้งมันก็ขึ้นอยู่กับขนาดและอื่นๆ ด้วยเหมือนกัน
งานศิลปะบนกำเเพงของคุณ คุณต้องการให้สังคมและประชาชนที่ชมงานของคุณ ได้รับอะไรกับผลงานที่คุณทำ ?
คือผมชอบเวลาที่คนหยุดดูงานของผม โดยที่ไม่ต้องคิดอะไรเลย ให้ความรู้สึกที่เขาได้รับนั้นบอกเขาไปเอง ว่าคุณนึกถึงหรือได้รับอะไรไป
คุณพอจะรู้อะไรเกี่ยวกับงานศิลปะในเมืองไทยหรืองานสตรีทอาร์ทในเมืองไทยบ้างมั้ย ?
จริงๆ แล้วผมก็ไม่รู้เลยว่ามีอะไรเกิดขึ้นบ้าง ซึ่งก็อาจจะมีเยอะแต่ผมแค่ไม่ค่อยได้มีเวลาในการหาข้อมูลพวกนี้เลยเหมือนกัน
คุณมีอะไรอย่างอื่นบ้างมั้ยที่เป็นแรงบันดาลใจของคุณ รวมไปถึงในปีที่ผ่านมา คุณประทับใจอะไรต่อการทำงานศิลปะของคุณที่สุด ?
ผมได้เดินทางบ่อยมาก ไปในหลายๆ สถานที่ที่ผมไม่เคยคิดว่าจะได้มา เพราะผมเองก็ไม่ได้มีเงินที่จะไปไหนมาไหนได้ตลอด ซึ่งผมก็ได้เรียนรู้วัฒนธรรมในหลายรูปแบบมากแล้วก็มีความทรงจำที่ดีอยู่ตลอด ซึ่งขณะที่ผมกำลังตอบสัมภาษณ์นี้อยู่ ผมก็กำลังนั่งรถเมล์อยู่ในสวีเดน ซึ่งเรื่องราวพวกนี้มันเป็นอะไรที่ผมฝันมาตั้งแต่เด็กๆ นั่นก็คือการวาดรูปและท่องเที่ยวไปด้วย

Interview : The Emotional Of ‘Bezt’ Etam
Could you please tell us about the beginning of your art career from the very beginning. How did you get started ? Tell us a brief history about yourself ?
I started in around 1999/2000 with graffiti. I come from a small city called Turek and that’s when everything started. After few years of doing walls i decided do take the opportunity to make something bigger. In that time the group Etam was formed but not with Sainer. The first Etam was made together with my best friend from my childhood. in 2008 i went to an art school to study and meet Sainer, invited him to Etam and started big walls in Lodz.
It is obvious that you have a huge interest in Human Character. Tell us about how it has become the inspiration behind your art, in terms of style and design ?
I’m more interested in emotions than a character of a person. The moment/or a feeling connected to a moment is my goal. It’s just nice to have an emotional connection with the painting and i like to show emotions.
Please give us an example of your work. Tell us about the thought and process behind that character or piece ?
It’s really hard to talk about my own work. I rather listen what people have to say about it then tell people what should they think. When i work i concentrate to put a certain emotion in a painting but still it’s the viewer choice, his memories or a connection that makes the story. Someobody can view my works from totally different angle that i see it.
Your style is a mixture of portrait illustration and surrealism, correct ? Yes or No.
Yes and No depends of what i like to show i use different ways to show it.
Overview What is the main concept behind your work in terms of expression, message, and idea that you try to deliver to the audience and the public ?
I give a certain illustration or painting and the rest is in the viewers hands and mind. I don’t tell people what should they think. everybody should think by them self.
Tell us more about your techniques. I can see that you’ve mastered in both painting, and spraying. Is that correct ?
I don’t use spray cans anymore and i’m still learning acrylics. They are easier to cover, more healthy and easy to buy. With spraycans was a little bit harder. When you are out of a certain color you can always mix it from acrylics and you can’t do that with spray andI don’t think i mastered any of the techniques that i use. I learn my whole life and hopefully i will still get better and better. For the technical aspect when i paint a wall i use basic colors – blue, red, yellow, black and white and i mix everything from them. In the studio to not spend so much time on mixing i use already made colors. It’s the most efficient and simple way of doing it.
It is very fascinating on how you start your mural piece, from sketching the structure on the wall to choosing color scheme, mood and tone that overall complements to the environment. Please guide us through your thought and process behind your work ?
First i make a rough sketch of what i would like to paint. Then i make photo references of a model (mostly my girlfriend or myself), then i re sketch it and use photoshop to check if the sketch will look good on the wall. If yes i color if roughly to check the color scheme. After that i go on the wall and strat sketching on the wall. Go down and see how it looks, go up and re sketch the mistakes that i did, because there are always some. Then do it until the sketch is done. It takes me up to 2 days. Then i mix and try the colors on the wall. Cover all the needed spaces. Depending of the wall size it takes my up to 4 says. If everything is ok with the color scheme on the wall i start shading the elements, make them look as i want them to look. the last days are the details and fixing all the elements i think i need to fix and finish the wall. The whole process takes up to 14 days depending on the wall size.
What do you want people or society to receive the most out of your work?
I like when people stop to see the work that i did and for a moment they don’t think about nothing else but what they see. They go inside their and my world just for few seconds.
Have you heard about any art movement or any street art scene in Thailand ?
To be hones i don’t follow so much art movements right now. It’s just too much to see and i don’t have so much time.
Besides your interest and appreciation in Human Character, what else are the key elements that keep you motivated and inspired in general? What was the most memorable highlight or moment from 2016 ?
The people that i meet while traveling, seeing the places i could never afford to go by myself. Experiencing the culture in a different way then tourists do. I have a lot of great memories connected to my travel life and it’s hard to pick one. Right now i’m in the bus in Sweden going back home from a wall that we painted and that’s something that i dreamed of when i was a kid. Painting and traveling.
